Sex and subspecies of young spur if poss

Jay seeing as tortoises are temperture sex dependant and not chromosonal when it comes to their sex, how is it possible to do a chromosonal test to determine sex. I know you can do chromosonal tests on the species of turtles that aren't temperature sex dependant (like softshells).

Interesting.... but obviously with the different sexes different genes are going to be expressed within the chromosomes.. Although most won't kick into sexual maturity there must be a small number present early on shaping the morphology of the animal in preparation for adulthood? Is this what Jay is trying to say?
