Question certificates questions

OK so at long last I've a few of my big ones microchipped and I've got the original certs.

So if I wanted to sell babies from those adults what I do next?

Thanks for any help - I've not dealt with this before. It always sounds so complicated...so I avoided it!

You need to fill out the cert 10
With the chip numbers of male and female.
How many live hatchlings, and when they hatched.
And the rest of the questions on the form:0)
Well this is what I used to do, I dont think much has changed apart from the cost.
It should tell you on the DEFRA site.

Is there a size at which babies must have chips fitted to them if they are being sold?

I believe it's now 60mm, Jonathan. Used to be 100mm. Seems so small for such teeny legs.
Please correct me if I'm wrong if any of the breeders know different, but I'm sure that's the size now.

It is 60 mm but the new chips are so small the cause no problems also emma they don't go in the leg it's the body caverty at the top of the leg.

Thanks for that Gordon. I've never needed one that small chipped. I think I'd read somewhere that this was becoming a more popular place to chip, or is that only for hatchlings? Mine have chips in their legs.

You need to get the adults papers sorted first Jonathan. Send off. Completed application form, original certs & microchip paperwork.

Once the parents papers are "specimen specific" you can then send off for off springs.

Thanks Lynn! I've got my chip numbers and the original certs so I'll get on with it now.

Hey Ozric,

I was in the vets yesterday getting my daughters rabbits microchipped, we got talking about the mini microchips and he said " they have seen loads of problems with them and that they are very unreliable. Something to do with cramming all the software or something like that into something do tiny!!"
Anyway that's the first I have heard of this, but interesting.

Andy

Hi Andy - thanks for the info. I don't even know if we got mini microchips or plain old microchips. Which I really should have asked. I was just relieved to be told everything had gone well. The main thing is to get these papers sorted out. I'm not convinced by this idea that having chips will save the day if the worst happens.
