New Horsfield rehomer - sad update
Picked her up today, shell seems quite badly distorted at the back and her beak needs a good trim. She seems lively though and is eating, drinking, weeing and pooing ok. Taking her to the vets next week for a general check, worming and beak trim.

Aw bless, I'm glad she has someone to give her all the TLC she needs. Have you got much history on her?

Their is a bit of deformity on the carapace but with a good diet, heat and hydration, it will not get any worse.
Its good its eating and pooing well. No reason why it should not go on to live a long happy life with you and good for you taking this tortoise on

Thanks Bindi & Beverley She's approx 7 years old, an import, she's had uv and nutrabol, but not been bathed very often and only ever had bagged lettuce, also been mixed with other species. She's very feisty and energetic though, a real character! Not sure if she'll mix with my others evertually, think she might be best kept on her own, she has a history of biting, other torts and humans!

That carapace deformity was caused by not enough humidity. She probably stopped growing for at least a year or so and the scutes became stuck together and didn't spread apart where they should have, causing the uneven growth. She probably won't get much bigger, so not much you can do about her shell. It definately won't get any worse.
She also hasn't shed her skin in a while, you can see a build up on the scales around her face. Keep the humidity up and a few soaking a week should loosen that up and help it come off. Danny

Thanks for the info Danny. Poor thing, will that have been painful for her at the time? And will the deformed shell affect her health in any way in the future?

I wouldn't think the shell was ever painful and it shouldn't affect her health any.
