oh Row I feel for you, it's not an easy one. I have to do one of mine each year. I'm sorry to say I have to turn Hetty upside down so she sticks her head out and hold her head, with a stick (not always though) to stop her closing her mouth and snip away with man size clippers. it only takes the two maybe 3 snips. She will love you that she won't have the problem and forget about it a few hours later. good luck. it may be the bottom jaw falls into place after? ..... cb

Oh blimey. This is not going to be easy

Twiglet is a sod at the best of times, he's the smallest of the two but has an attitude the size an elephant.

I'll let you know how I get on or not as the case as may be

I found that it is easier to have the vet do it. Less stress for me (and possibly for the tortoise too). Our vet does it for £7. It's worth every penny!

I think this the route I'll probably go down if the emery board doesn't work.

I just get worried as there was a post on here sometime ago where a vet did it and it went horribly wrong. The pictures posted were just dreadful and they have stuck in my mind.....

Row I think that would be ever so rare it went wrong. Our local tortoise society does beak and claw clips i think if there may be one near you who could be more experienced? Not sure on the old emery board, I see what you mean and it sounds easier, but I think it would cause a lot of 'dust' ? and would it get in the mouth? and the noise close to the ears, plus their beaks are pretty tough....ooh sorry if putting you off that too ! personally I would go Hannah's route if really stressed with it. I will say once you do it if you do try it does get looooads easier , cb x

True, but then again, how do you know that it won't go horribly wrong when you try? One would hope that the fry is better at that, if you have never tried that.
