Anita,
I have used these for three years now, and I would recommend the Arcadia t5 slimline canopy if you can get your hands on one. It has the built in controller, reflector and comes with the tube. The advantage there is only one cable to look at.
The disadvantage of the separate contolers is they have numerous cables, you have to buy the tube seperatly along with the reflector, overall depending on your enclosure they look messy.
Remember that is my opinion, but these are the best lights on the market, and I recommend them to everyone. I changed all my tubes after two years and the were still giving out over 175uvb.
The best height if you don't have a meter is 16 inches from the top of there shell, after one year lower to 13 inches.
The slimline canopy comes with clamps that can easily be fixed to a small piece of wood where you can then hang chains from to enable you to adjust the height.

As a flood source it has a wide footprint but very little drop off of energy over the illuminated zone.

My advice is that we light at least the whole animal but allow for light and shade.

So it's no good for an adult Sulcata as such but for "pet" sized torts it's great.

12-15" from lamp to the top of the shell depending on species.

Guaranteed to be upper index potent for 12 whole months.

John

What is the ideal height that the T5 tubes need to be placed above the tortoise?

The flood looks very nice John, if that was the only source of lighting what would be the maximum size viv it could be used in?

Thank you
Anita

Thank you again Andy and John. Fantastic feedback.
I'm going to get the T5 flood, easily big enough to cover my tortoise (it's only 5 years old).
I'll post the setup when it's finished
Anita

Hi
I bought a second hand viv tonight, initially I wanted a 3ft one but the one I bought was 4ft.
I don't think the flood unit will be big enough so I've decided on the T5 slimline canopy which comes with a Arcadia D3+ T5 lamp (12% UVB) tube.
I've just measured the inside length and it come to just under 47 inches, so I'm thinking I will have to get the A1FS0244R 39W 910 x 80 x 35mm (36 inch) size?
Is this correct before I purchase?

Thank you Anita
