Em, you're right - I've been reading everything I can get my hands on and virtual shopping since June! Bittersweet in some ways as I have only been able to venture into tortoise owning due to the sudden loss of my best mare through a freak accident, so it's her insurance money that have paid for them (plus lots of 'sensible' things - but I had to treat myself!) Hence not daring to buy anything until the insurance mney came through - didn't want to jinx myself and be left disappointed!

We named them Luna first because my mare was called Star, and Luna is the moon goddess. Then I decided to get two, so we named the younger one Iris, the rainbow goddess. Yes, I was having to teach Greek and Roman gods at the time

Talking

My wee ones move about all over the place, Hubba likes to sometimes sleep with her butt in the air, other times they sleep together in the same hut and sometimes in separate huts, they seem to go through stages of being together then being separate. The cutest has to be one time when I couldn't find Hubba and found her sleeping on top of Bubba (literally) in a nose dive position. It was so funny, don't know how she was comfortable

So sorry to hear about Star You must have been so upset. My horse Flash has got arthritis coming in his stifle

I'm loving the names Luna and Iris! We were thinking of Greek names when I got Lola, but my Dad's idea was 'Donna-Kebab' so I put a stop to that lol!

You're going to have so much fun, upload lots of photos and just enjoy them. There are always lots of friendly people on SW to offer advice and no-one's judgemental or critical. They really are brilliant pets (torts that is, not people on this forum!)

I dont know if this is what other torts do but when dory is asleep she doen't sleep with her head in her shell like Darla does, she sleeps with her head turned to the side (abit like a dog i think) which is quite funny, my other tort.

Squirt does that too lol, and it's just liked you described - almost like a dog would! Squirt's also partial to a cuttlefish pillow to rest his heavy head!
