Red face Runner Bean Leaves...

Hi all,

Just wondered if runner bean leaves are ok...My little Hermann's Squirt got hold of one the other week and had a few nibbles and seemed to love it. This was a few weeks ago now and it hasn't seemed to bother him at all and I think I remember reading somewhere that they are ok, but thought I just better check...

doubt it, it will be high in stuff that isn't good for them probably, like nitrogen or something, never ever heard of them being suitable

I took in 2 tortoises a few years ago...both pre 1980 imports. both has been given this as a staple diet and they were both quite unhealthy, kidney and liver problems and struggling after hibernation. Its one of those things that a nibble or two will do no harm but en masse is problematic..

ah no more of that then! Glad he only had a nibble then! Was quite a few weeks ago now and he still seems chirpy so no lasting damage hopefully! He has a very good varied weed diet

Small amounts won't hurt, if veg leaves are fed be careful they have not been sprayed if from another garden. Runner beans have a good Phosphorus to Calcium ratio 1:1.5, if the potassium levels were'nt too high would be a good torty feed.
