Panacur advice needed
Hi everybody,
I would like to worm my young Horsefield tortoise myself this year instead of giving £30 to my "specialist" vet who can't even manage to feed the medicine to him... I know Panacur can be bought online - I assume this type is what people use: Panacur Dog/Cat Worming Paste 5g http://www.hyperdrug.co.uk/Panacur-w...uctinfo/PANDP/ Correct me if I'm wrong, please. I am also wondering how people dose the paste - my tortoise has 167g so I will need a very small amount and doubt that the supplied syringe will be good enough as it's for much bigger animals..? Not sure. The last time I wormed my tortoise I had the dose in a very small skinny syringe with a plastic end - I assume this can be bought somewhere for precise measurements... does anyone know where to get this or what the technical term for this is? Thank you for reading this and sharing your experience! |

Not sure about the dosage, sorry. But do you mean a pipette? They can be very accurate depending on the size you get and the gradient (space between the measuring lines) you get.
I know SW sells a syringe but I'm not sure if it would be too large but it would be worth a look |

i use a wormer for reptiles, which is called beaupher (you can get the one for large reptiles and use 0.1 g of it for the weight of your tortoise as it for reptiles over 150g) otherwise if you get the tube for small reptiles you will end up using nearly all the tube., you have graduations on the tube itself and it will tell you how much to give depending on weight, I have used this successfully, but putting it on their food when they already have a leaf in their mouth, so the next mouthful they get the paste. Or i find if you put the tube on front of them sometimes they bite hold it it, then squeeze it in their mouth. I like it when they are good like that!

I just measure out the reccomended dose and sprinkle it on the tortoises food, but be sure to feed them one at a time so as to be sure each one has the right amount! I hope this helps Regards, Gary |
