Default Italian tortoise

OK it's a bit boring but I saw this tortoise on holiday. It's a 16th century cast bronze job from Italy, currently in an art gallery in Rotterdam.

I am not sure what to say Jonathan......it isn't pretty is it, though I guess being 16th century it was a clever thing to make, and obviously a great study of a tortoise. In fact the more I am thinking of it the more I am liking it!! Though now I am thinking was a real life tortoise used to make the 'cast'........ Oh the emotions art brings out!!! X x x. Hugs x x x

that's what I was aiming for with my clay tortoises ! (different thread) no where near !!! I think it's fantastic. How lovely to have something so old and probably with huge history attached. It needs a name you know . CB

It does look quite life like in some ways, and I do wonder if some poor 16th century tort was used to make a plaster cast from 😳

we need a history. Has any one read Portrait of a Tortoise? Timmy, who was female - always understated - at Selborne ... wow brilliant - we need Little Italy's portrait and his name or we shall have to name him ! CB
