A little OT... is pedantic a word?

If you are getting a tube at 10%, then as you say you would still be in need of the bulb for heat and a dimming thermostat is a good way to do it.

If Ed is still following here, agreed you did say right at the start that a 10 tube would be suitable.

Sorry for any confusion with terminology I may have used wrongly, so many names for things that do similar things, the uv bulb I have been using is a repti glo 5.0 compact 26 w along side this I have been using a heat bulb with temperature controlled by a dimming habistat. I understand this uvb bulb may well be to low and have built a new tort table and plan to use a UVB tube 10 or 12 ( the long ones that look a bit like a floresent strip light) with a starter unit I already have. I will be using a reflector as well and position it fairly close to the soil. Been advised about 6 inches hope this clears things up

You could stick this in the dictionary as an example of pedantic.

Ok, I admit it's a tube in operation.

Sounds good. I use at 10.0 with reflector at 7 inches above the substrate.

Well done Kirkie. I'd forgotten about those things - but they are surely not described as tubes. Are they?

I could be wrong but I think they're gas filled like tubes rather than a having a filament producing the UV.

I give in. It's a tube and our OP was using the correct term all along. Apologies to all and sundry!
