Smile The natural habitat for Med tortoise - redirect from Tortoise trust forum

I don't know if this has been posted before. I have been looking to recreate the most naturally-looking enclosure that resembles their natural habitat - came across this on the tortoise trust forum and it's very good read!!

That is very interesting. Unfortunately confirms that I have to dig up rather a lot of turf though!

Yes, very good. I have big stones and notice that George loves to angle himself as it suggests.

Also they say to stop prettying up our enclosures, which I am a little guilty of so might just have a little think there.

Thanks for this.

I've got plum slate pieces in part of the outdoor enclosure and it works well. I removed all the grasses. The natural ground that I get here is not good for my tortoises at all. I strip the turf and lay weedblock down before layers of stones. It's the only way to keep them dry here. Turf here gets soggy and cold. In July.

What bothers me about this post is how does the average... new keeper diplicate this habitat in the area outside of the tortoises native range?

I know one of these authors says that if they can't duplicate the range they shouldn't have those particular tortoises in their posession.
