Humidity for Indian Stars
I have tried making a humid hide as suggested by Jerry Fife in his book on Indian Stars which he believes helps prevent pyramiding, when I tried this for my two they just ignored it. My latest plan has been to fill a cat litter tray with top soil and plant it up with grass, weeds and succulents which I have put into their indoor enclosure. The theory being that by regularly watering the plants in that area there would be increased humidity in their enclosure. They also enjoy roaming through it and grazing. Has anyone one else any thoughts on humidity?

Kelly, My two don't seem all that keen on misting but I do mist the top soil regularly. Isn't it odd how different each tortoise is despite being the same type.

Marcus Langford advised me in an email that a fine mist/spray of water encourages them to come out and eat. It simulates what happens in the wild, after the rain they would come out and feed.
So the misting serves 2 purposes, one to increase humidity and the other to encourage feeding. My little one has a humid hide that has sphagnum moss on the top that I spray, she sometimes uses it for her afternoon nap.

I get the moss from the garden centre, between 99p and £2.99 a bag depending on the size of the bag.
