Meeting other tortoise friends
Hi everyone,
I had a look at a german tortoise website and noticed that there are lots of local groups and events where tortoise fanatics can meet others, or show their tortoises in special events. Is there anything similar in this country? It's obviously not the best time of year for any shows, but I wondered if perhaps people in some areas might have regular meetings. I would be especially interested in the London or South East England area. Julia |

Well I know a few forums have anual meetings. We had our first this year, a very enjoyable day.
I have met a few members here some at the meet and others at other times. Linz, Darren, Sarah, Andy, Viv and Ade (hope i've not missed anyone) Organisations also have meetings and open days I know the BCG do.

i think its great that people with similar interests can meet
we all learn from each others experiences but i am not sure i would want to take my torts to any events as julia said that some people in germany do i would be concerned for cross infection and undue stress julia you will have to travel up to birmingham our next meet is nearer xmas |

I went oto a BCG day near me, which had a health check there. Lots of people had torts with them. I would be woried about cross infection too as I never saw any form of hand wash used by the people doing the checks between picking up each tort.

Tortoisefriends has had an annual meet up for the last six years. We now make a weekend of
it. Its great to meet new and older keepers. We have done London Zoo, Whipesnade, Cotswald Wildlife Park twice, Twycross, Colchester zoo and this year Bristol zoo. So far we have had great years.

Hi Jo,
this makes at least 2 of us. Perhaps there are some others in the London area who would like to get in touch for a potential meeting, perhaps in spring, when the tortoise year starts again. Anyone else interested??? Julia |

Getting connected
Hi Julia, in South West London. I am Jenny in SE London. Yes I would be interested in meeting up with other tortie owners in London area. If Jo is still in touch, that makes three of us!!!!
The Midlands Division of Shelled Warriers (Hic!) don`t sound as if they talk much torties when they meet up (Hic)?*?!! (lol) |
