My tortoise won't move

Hi i have noticed for the past week or so my tortoise has been awake but just stares in the corner where she was sleeping. She hardly moves at all. I take her for regular 20 minutes of bath time a day, She eats weeds with calcium powder on top. She has a top soil substrate. I have cleaned her out two days ago. I am in the process of getting materials for her two layer table (should be Ready in two weeks or so). I have recently got her but I thought she would have liked being with me more as she was extremely scared of her last owner and used to bite him whenever he touched her plastron and she lived in a tiny glass container and hardly ever got out. Although she doesn't bite me and isn't timid of me at all i still don't understand why.

She is still probably settling in with you. How long you had her now?

A couple of my tortoises just sit and bask all day and do not do much else.

As long as she is eating, basking and pooing she should be fine. Give her a bit more time, tortoises don't like change

Tortoises are rubbish at change as Lynne says. It can take them months to adjust to new surroundings.

Try to keep to a regular timetable for lights, heat, soak, feed... so she gets to know what to expect and when. While over handling can cause stress the routine of handling for a regular warm bath can help them to understand that you are to be trusted.

As Lynee says, as long as she's eating, basking and pooing - don't worry too much. Joe isn't exactly active most of the time at the moment either... he only has the odd day on the rampage instead of all of them in high summer!

She will only eat if i pick her up and put her by the food i am going to run a test today while i am away i am going to put food down and see if its gone when i get back.

My two are the same at the moment, they have only been with me for 5 days and they stay in their shelter most of the time, just come out to bask, eat & poo if I am lucky. Often I have had to wake them and bath them but I know it will take a while to settle so I'll just have to be patient. I am sure your girl will settle soon and will learn that your hands mean only good things, but as everyone has said it will take time. The time of year probably doesn't help either

That should be more than enough time to settle in unless it is a wild caught animal which I wouldn't think it was.

The main factors are the temperatures at which the tortoise is kept. Try gradually raising the night time and day time temperatures and see what happens.
