breeder in ireland

sorry guys should of added this question on my last thread,

does anyone know off or can point me in the right direction of tort breeders in ireland, north or south, from what i have read so far they seem to best place to ensure its CB

I've had a look on the TPG website but can't see a breeder listed for Ireland. I'm sure there are members from ireland on here though so hopefully they'll be along shortly

There are not any breeders in Ireland, or Northan Ireland as far as I know.
Most keepers there come to the UK to get there tortoises. Or get a friend to bring them over if they are visiting the UK.

I have not found any either, I had to travel to England for my first two torts, it is well worth it to get Cb torts and know they have been taken from the wild where wild torts should stay. I know its a hassle but you can take in a trip to Alton towers at the same time

how do these little guys hold up with travel etc if i was to go over to england? would they get stressed out on trip back? and can anyone recommend good breeder in england(near alton towers lol).

On the travel front, I understand they can get stressed. I did move some little ones over quite a distance a few months ago and they were OK. I placed each tortoise in a small plastic box with air holes drilled and I used a mixture of dried grass and soil in with them. I'd suggest its best to try and keep the travel to a minimum if you can. Someone told me that budget airlines have a total ban on animals of any kind.

Hi Guys,

All of my tortoises have come over to Ireland from the UK.

I have large Curver plastic storage tubs which I use to transport them, the carry handles are just right for passing the rear seat belts through them to secure them in the seat.

In the boxes I have hemp or beech chips, depending on what I can get my hands on at the time.

I also prefer to travel at night so keeping them warm is not an issue, they just snuggle down into the substrate and go to sleep non the wiser for travelling. They are also more secure bedded down rather than moving around whilst the car is on the go. I just throw a blanket over the top of the boxes when they are on the ferry to keep the worst of the night chill of them in the car especially if travelling in the cold months.

Make sure you travel through the ferry ports with article 10's as you never know when you will be stopped and asked to produce them, failure to do so might result in the tortoises being confiscated.

darren / piglet lives in chester and is 1 1/2 hours drive from alton towers

Holyhead won't be all that far from Chester is it? I once went the Holyhead/Dublin route and wasn't far off Chester on the way. It depends where in Ireland Brodi is, it could be Galway or something
