Just catching up and I have been reading the posts with bated breath!
One thing I picked up was how you were feeling that you had failed him in some way. Of course you haven't, anyone that provides warmth, lamps, nutrobol etc and going to the vets cannot possibly be doing anything than trying to do their best.
