How many males and how many females? How big are they? Having a retained egg and a subsequent infection isn't contagious, so shouldn't have to worry about a new tortoise catching anything. Did she dig a proper nest and lay all the eggs in a hole or did she lay them 1 or 2 at a time over a few days?
