Yellowfoots are shy tortoises when it comes to bright open areas especially as babies , remember they come from rather dark dense tropical rainforest floors hense the large eyes
to help them see in the dull light so a well planted area outside would possibly be more appreciated than a typical pen that would suit a med speices .
Uvb is important to all tortoise speices .
