It's been around for a few years now.
I try to use it whenever I can. They were actually thinking of changing it again and putting them in an established genus. Leopard tortoises closest living relatives are Tent tortoises
, so close infact they were thinking of putting them in Psammobates, but decided that wasn't a good idea so left them on there own in Stigmochelys.
Now the genus Geochelone has just 2 species, G. elegans and G. platynota. Sulcatas are on their own in Centrochelys.
