Eye problem
Hi all,
One of our baby reds likes a lot to burry himself in next to any plant we have in their enclosure. One of his eyes seems to be smaler at times, also some sort of tiny bubbles appear at one end of his eye. Could this be due to the soil entering his eye or is this a medical problem that needs vets attention? He is eating well and seems to be happy and alert, but this eye problem is making me worry about him Thanks, Madalina& Michael |
ive read a thread like this recently and they perscribed artificial tears from your chemist please correct me if im wrong

Hi Michael and Madelina,
Have you by any chance got a camera which will take clear close up pics for us to see the problem? Have you seen my post for the ROI vet?? It is a sticky post. Ade  |
Artificial tears wont do any harm to your tortoise, so worth a try. If it does not clear up then
a visit to the vets would be in order. |
Here are the pics, I didnt resize them so you see his eyes better.

Thanks :) As you can see, his eye looks okay now, its just at times I've seen bubbles and sometimes his eye looks somewhat iritated. His eye is not inflamated or red, there is no strange discharge from his eye apart from tears. Could it be because of his burrying or maybe lack of enough humidity? I may of course be just worrying for nothing but I rather be safe than sorry. Micheal thinks he's fine, I'm the one thats pretty much the worrier here :) If you guys see anything wrong please tell me as we are going away for the weekend on thursday and one of Micheal's cousins is gonna take care of them and I dont wanna spend my weekend worrying something will go wrong, so in the case of vet necessity I rather take him there before Thursday. Today they all had a really good meal and he seems alert and happy like always. Thanks all :D Madalina |
Bubbles in the eyes are a sure sign that a redfoot isn't being kept humid enough. You definately need to up the humidity in the substrate and the enclosure.
