Has anyone else's gone down yet?

One of mine has gone down yesterday, 4 days later than last year. One always goes in September and the other in October. It doesn't seem to matter how warm it is, it's the warmest it's been since June

Its funny as I live at the other end of the country and mine have been slowing down big time. Even when temps have been above 26c in the last few days. So maybe they are trying to tell us something :0)

its strange this year. Usually my boy spur has dug down and dont see him til next year even though he may not be fully hibernated but post Bank holiday thats it. This year he is bombing around for food , which is making me nervous as rule of thumb, stop eats sept, purge 4 weeks october , packed or under by first week November. All the others are haring it round too. Big Margie even ate an apple today that was the size of a possum which had fallen down, CB

My other one is slowing down, not eating much and not moving about much but has another 2-3 weeks to go until the usual time she goes down. It's a scorcher today too but doing nothing much at all. It's only 7c at nights

Here although its still very warm, mine seem to know the days are getting shorter and colder. Its over 20c her in the SE and my tortoises have not left the GH, not even earlier on when they are normally up and about. :0)

Well after only 17 days or so my first one to go down has resurfaced. My other one who was slowing right down and looked like going down at any point has become a bit more active too. This is despite the temperatures being lower now

My greenhouse was around 36c yesterday middayish, and one of my females is still digging down so wont be long. And I am at the other end of the country. So they do know something we dont:0)

Well checked my female today and she is still down, this is with heat on in the morning and temps in my other plant GH is 28c, so she is down for the big sleep:0)

Both of them are buried now

All of my lot have disappeared even the box turtles which surprised me as they seem to love the rain which we are having plenty of at the moment.
Then on the other hand my Burmese browns are out playing in the rain.

all a bit slow but still out sunbathing - had to dig up one of the girlie horsfields as she had gone right down under a wet pot - couldnt find her for two days - she hissed and griped , is covered in mud - goodness very ungrateful. it was so hot the next day she dried out and looked like an garden statue. still hissing and throwing a hissy fit - they are so grumpy this time of year - do you think they want to stay up and watch Christmas. Many years ago I had one who spent her days on a blanket in front of the fireplace all winter in the warm -still with us ! - how things have changed ! CB

Interestingly, tort 1 went down on 10th September last year and 14th Sept this year although did resurface this year for two days as well after 17 days.
Tort 2 went down 3rd October last year and 3rd October this year and I'm sure it was very similar dates in previous years.

I have put some of mine down today a week or so early but they were more than ready to go.

Alan1 07-10-2021 01:16 PM

One of mine went down on 4th October and the other on 6th October (2021)

tortydat 07-10-2021 01:54 PM

Mine have stopped feeding but only just and some of them are still quite active so it will be several weeks yet before I box them up. It's very mild here today.

18c with us today and it was a scorcher yesterday but it doesn't seem to make a difference to them. I think it was October 3rd last year

tortydat 07-10-2021 10:22 PM

Yes it was mild here today and my Hermanns came out for a wander but didn't eat anything. I am aiming for the end of the month still as that seems to be their preferred time but I have to physically put them in their boxes as they can't dig in naturally anywhere.

I think mine are confused! I got home this afternoon to all the hermanns out & busy. The horsfields are not happy. A few had dug in, well most actually but it was 22c here today! & forcast 21 again tomorrow, so one or two have got up for a wander. Very unseasonably mild here atm.
