blood coming out of mouth....
Morning all,
I had a hatchling hatch last Saturday I left it in the incubator for some hours after it hatched as it hadn't quiet absorbed all of it egg yolk and brought it down stairs and placed it on a tortoise table Sunday morning. It drank some water but hasn't eaten and this morning I have given it a bath and blood and mucus has come out of it mouth......what should I do ? any suggestions would be welcome I am quiet worried about it as it dosent seem to have any va va boom to hide or anything. :( |

The only thing I can think of is to keep the hatchling warm and hydrated. As they can dehydrate very quickly. |
thankyou sandy, i've bathed it in reptiboost and it seems a little happier. I guess time will tell at lest the blood has stopped.

I might of got some of the blood and gunk from the inside of the egg but as said keep it hydrated and warm.

But dehydration might well be whats happened since. As the hatchling can take a while to come out, and the process can dehydrate them very quickly and make them lathagic:0) Fingers crossed for him/her. |
It's not looking to good this morning, more blood this morning and minimal movement I've given it another reptiboost bath. :(

Im no expert and I would say a vet should intervene here but sometimes I believe kidney damage can cause blood from the mouth - being on heat pads, dehydrated as the uric builds up in small ones it has no where to go. If all the usual has been dismissed, rotting food in mouth, cut to mouth then looks like could be serious and advice by sight of a vet. Sorry. CB

A visit to a vet might help, but think this unlikely:0( |
Just wanted to say how sorry I am to read about your little tort.

I'm sorry to hear your little hatchling isn't right, but sadly they don't always come out right. I can't say what might be wrong , I'm not experienced enough with hatchlings, but I do wonder if there is anything a vet can do with such a tiny tortoise, but I might be wrong. I lost one a couple of years ago, about two weeks after hatching, it had a deformed jaw, and I know a few other people on here have lost hatchlings. Please let us know what happens.
