Where do your torts lay their eggs?

When your tortoises lay eggs where do they prefer...indoors, outdoors, under glass, prepared laying area or just out in the garden?

I had eggs for the first time this year and my hermann laid in garden soil. So was just wondering if individual tortoises had a preference?

My horsfield laid two eggs outside in garden soil yesterday around two in the afternoon when it was quite hot, this was her first time too :)

Mine always outside. Sometimes in my lawn, others in the greenhouse.

Thanks all that is interesting! My girls put themselves in laying pit at night!! but during the day they go out as soon as they can.....although one of my girls put herself in a different box last night on her own which surprised me. Still no further eggs though despite glorious hot weather and laying pit and outside area!! I have one large tortoise hide filled with substrate and two smaller hides. They usually put themselves into larger hide in the evening!!
