RT Rubbing Eyes

Hey,
I have two tortoise both 1 year old now. Does anyone else have Russian tortoises that rub their eyes? I have one that likes to rub her eyes a lot with her front legs.

Temps are right, there on topsoil with no sand. Its dampened down each day. They both have a bath every morning.

I have grown up with tortoises all my life and my mums tortoise does the same. A lot of the time its when she needs a poo! My little one seems to be the same but i have notice she does it randomly too.

Anyone else have this problem?

Mine do this too sometimes, I don't think it's anything to worry about unless they are constantly doing it, they may get a bit of dirt in their eyes which can irritate x

mine too, a couple of my girls do it regularly and have done for years, most of the others don't. Whilst on the subject of rubbing what I find hilarious is my Ibera will sit under a branch or hedge and wiggle his behind rubbing it against the plant life - just the top of his shell on his behind! He sticks it right up in the air like he needs a bit of a scratch on the 'ol shell. Anyway rubbing eyes could be a sign it is a little hot, a little dehydrated so make sure eyes are not sunken, but sounds ok in this case. CB

I feel she has been doing it a bit more just lately but she is dopey and starting to think about winter. When she has rubbed them and she is walking about they look clear and she is happy to walk about and cause mischief lol. She is eating ok but is a slow grower lol

She has a bath daily for 15 mins. What does it meann if the eyes r suncken? She only went for her 6 monthly check up a few weeks back and she was as bright as a button. It seems to be since she is slowing down for winter she is doing it more.

I don't think it will be anything to worry about - as long as dark and beady with a glisten to them they should be fine. You would know if she is dehydrated and rubbing for that reason as they will look totally different. When mine get caught in a shower they do it also.
And yep - I think russians are the most mischievous little things ever! quite some characters in my mob, CB

My THH washes his eyes every morning in the bath with the same action :)
