Leaves and flowers?
This might seem like a stupid question but I've downloaded a list of edible weeds and plants from The Tortoise Table website, unless it states otherwise can tortoises eat both the leaves and the flowers of these plants? I've only ever fed Maggie viola flowers, everything else I've given her has been leaves. I assume all flowers and petals are safe to eat aswell as the leaves if on this list? X

I'm getting some house plants, are the flowers of Pelargonium, Easter cactus and bromeliad OK? They're on the approved list so I know leaves are ok x

Abbie, good point, I would say usually if leaves are ok then flowers are too as they would be in the ground and won't have a little sign on to say to the tortoise eat leaves but not flowers ! however I don't know for sure. I think your tortoise would dictate whether they ate it or not. Im not sure I would try easter cactus or bromeliad with my lot but if the web site is saying ok then don't see why not. Let us know how you get on. Love your new avatar by the way.

Aloe Vera is safe and can be eaten, but if fed too much can give them the runs. Large pad cacti are also ok, but be careful of spikes. Just because they are safe, does not mean they will or should be fed to tortoises. I think on the tortoise table it will say if they leaves and flowers are safe to eat. Indoor campanula are safe to eat too. |
