Sulcata picture thread :)

I don't have any but love one when I eventually have to room, their size is amazing and it would be so cool to have one plodding around your garden :)

Can sulcata mums and dads post pics of their babies and their homes please? From the tiny ones to the huge ones, it would be really interesting to see.

I don't want to be a pain but could you also post age, scl, weight just to give an idea of their growth

can't wait to see pics!

Hello and welcome to SW. There doesn't seem to be many sulcata owners with pics . I saw the pic of your torts in the other thread, are they cherry heads? Smart torts they are

trulytortoises 22-04-2009 10:57 PM

that tort in the pic looks pretty big, i really want some more torts but havnt got anymore space until we sell our house. I really like the look of the pancake torts, does anyone know where i could get any from and how much the pancakes would roughly be, are the same sort of price as hermanns?

Alan1 22-04-2009 11:02 PM

I think pancakes are around £250 each Beth

trulytortoises 22-04-2009 11:38 PM

wooooo....thats quite abit...best get saving, they seem quite rare.
I had my two hermanns out in the garden the other day and the window cleaners came around, so i tried to secretly get them inside as i dont like too many people knowing about them but they spotted them, they are quite chavish (chavs) if that makes sense, lol! and they were saying they are quite expensive torts arent they, and i was like 'well not really as they are quite popular now' [trying to reduce the risk of them getting nicked] they were saying so how to u keep them, i just said oh well i dont have room here so they live at my mams & i only bring them down on my day off when they can go outside. That was a big fat lie i told them but i was scared incase word got around n they get pinched :(

I think that's sensible. BCG is always saying don't advertise the fact that you have tortoises

Paulg1 23-04-2009 12:53 AM

She is growing like a weed. I didn't get her early enough to prevent the bumpy shell but all of the growth she has had since i've had her (1.5") has been all smooth. It should take her upwards of 15years to reach her size potential. I am looking forward to her larger size but I'm sure there will be times I'll regret it too. Just ask Terry about lugging large guys around in wheelbarrows!

hi im terry and i dont actually keep sulcata as i feel one large species is enough for anyone lol.as to useing wheelbarrows i have made a wooden sled for my largest girls ,recently had to go to bristol for a weeks work and my poor wife had the leopards to lug back to the shed at night.the largest weighs nearly 40 lb so Christine puts her on the sled and drags it up the slope of their enclosure at night.im sure she was pleased to see me back home i cant imagine why.
