Indian Star Diet

Hello,

For 18 month ish old stars how much of their diet % wise should be grasses?

And is it acceptable for this to be mostly lawn grasses?

Our two dont seem to like it but they will eat it will if I add it finely chopped. Just wanted to know what kind of quantities I should aim to feed it in.

Hi Matt sorry for the late reply. I give my Stars a lot of lawn grass, as much as they can eat when it is available. Today they had a big bunch and by evening it was all gone, I found some very happy lazy tortoises basking,

I guess tomorrow I will give them more. If they have a choise they will eat weeds first, like Vetch or Thistles, but I dont have a lot of those. I still give them Nutrazu for nutrition some other day.

They are lovely stars :) Really beautiful shells both of them :D

Mine still wont take the grass unless I cut it up along with everything else, but they are eating it so I think thats progress :D

My pair are still fairly young, about 18 months or so.

How old are yours?

Thank you. The ones on the photo are a year apart. Mitha is 3 years 5 months now, Margo 2 yes 5 monts. We are still debating whether Margo a girl or a boy. I say she is a female, my daughter convinced it is a boy. Margo says 'You'll never know'. Mitha is certainly a big girl for her age, she is growing nicely and was 1kg 446g last weekend, and she is only 3 years old. I am planning a large enclosure by the end of summer for all three now.

What a whopper!

What type of enclosure are you planning? A big table style? Or an outdoor enclosure?

Are they in a table at the moment?

Matt sorry again late reply. I am planning a table style large run on the floor with exit door to roam during the day in the room, like Neddy has for their leopard. Not sure about the garden, sadly as we have a lot of wildlife, like foxes, cats, crows and most importantly rats. Maybe after we move again I can consider outside run. And by the way, the ZooMed tortoise calcium block is only decoration, they do not touch it, I also have calcium stones and cuttlefish.
