2 Different Species
Hello All,
I was wondering if any one can help. I have an Egyptian Tortoise and a Spur Tighed Tortoise and I have just seperated them as I was informed that I shouldn't mix species. I built a fence between them to divide the area in two. Is this enough, or should I find another spot to put them further away from each other? Thankyou in advance for any suggestions. Alvic |

I think the fence should be enough - it's just to ensure they don't come into physical contact with each other. And you should wash your hands well after handling one and before handling the other. (And well done for taking action on the advice you were given!)

Well done on following the advice so quickly. A new tortoise would need to be kept seperate from all others in case it has any illness. General monitoring, as you would with any tortoise, is sufficient unless you suspect any specific issues. Regular bathing, checking for worms and monitoring weight etc will be required, if after 6 months everything is ok you can start and introduce them.

I really want to do what's best for my tortoise so I will be asking alot of questions before acting. What i need to know is a good diet for them. I usually give them lettuce, veg and fruits but I now found out I can give them weeds and flowers. Can anyone suggest a healthy diet.

Have I missed something? where did he specify a species for the potential new tortoise?

I don't think he did specify a species for the new tort - I think Wendy may have misread and thought he was talking about the two he already has (which he has separated).
