just a silly thinking about "spur-Herman "

hi guys! got a silly ideal about breeding the tortoise, just read a article about someone succeful breed by a male tiger with a female lion , so I'm thinking is it possible that my male spur thight mating with my female Herman that I would got "spurman" babies ???

I know it's silly but is it possible?

I actually saw a programme where the male lion was bred with a female tiger. Think the cubs were called Ligers. It was a man who owned a rescue in America.

I don't see why it couldn't be possible but I know many keepers... even in the UK... who keep the two species together and nothing's ever happened. I can't recall where I've read of any accounts of that kind of hybrid.

It probably wouldn't look like anything special... now... a Leopard and a Sulcata or a Radiated and a Redfoot... that's something completely different.

Hi EJ ! I think some of Chinese or Japanese tortoise keeper who did breed sulcata with leopard succefully, but it wasn't naturally mating, my Herman will be laying eggs anytime from now but got no male Herman , so I may have a try see if my spur thighs interest my Herman or not, I will keep a close look to check out wether they are mating or not thanks.

Quite a few people in the states have bred Sulcata X Leopards naturally.

See what happens.

Following on from one or our local group meetings, where it was discussed in great length it was recommended that you do not even have different species co-habitating, so as for attempting to breed them it is a definite no.

Why would you want a "mixed breed" for want of a better word?

i agree,i have always been under the impression that different species shouldn't really be mixed

in the wild a male hermanns wouldn't come across a female spur thigh because the male spur thighs go around all the places in the wild putting up fences to keep them out and away from their 'women'
