If this is tuely going ahead perhaps we should try and stop it before it happens or at the least get thecorrect advise to them
I can just see many happy new tortoise owners leaving the store with there new expensive vivarium and a pot of coloured pellets and little do they no they are cageing there new bet with intent to kill .

Why dont petshops/garden centres sell open topped enclosures, I am sure they could make
just as much profit. At least the torts would have a fighting chance then.

God im shocked, I hope to god they dont start stocking tortoises, think of the hundreds or thousands that will die from teh importation alone.

I've got a pets@home near me i'll ask there next time i'm in & see if they will be selling tortoises & if so what they will be selling with them & advice they will be giving. after being bought totally unsuitable housing for mine on the advice of where she was bought it is terrible to think that maybe many more will be bought on impulse then made to live in totally unsuitable conditions then prob given up when when people realise you cant just bung them in a viv with afew greens & expect them to survive.

When I asked in the other pets at home after I found out from the previous store the man (I think it was the manager)was pretty shocked that I knew they were going to be getting them in.He became very cagey and just said that they were not going to sell them in all the store's but just see how it goes first

wellllll if this horrid thing does decide to go ahead, maybe us our selves could do some care sheets and take them there, explaining the ins n out, there care and housing etc, if we all go to our local pets at home (if you have one) then maybe all the other stores will get wiff, and explain about these forums!! how there is hundreds of members willing to jump on them lol, MIGHT be worth the shot

Well still no joy in finding out the facts , but been told a rumour is about that pets at home might start reselling reptiles including tortoises but there's nothing concrete yet .
Linz this is a good idea we should have fliers that state good places for advice research etc for the first time tortoise owner , not sure if the store managers would appreciate it mind but yes worth a try .

Sorry have'nt read every message so if i am already saying whats ben said forgive me..

Try and get Andy Highfield involved, i am sure he has had "conversations" for want of a better word with some of the inexperiancd staff at pets at home.

Maybe someone should post a snap shot in the Ask Andy section so he does not have to trawl through this !!
