Who do I report it to? Or should I mind my own business?
All,
My next door neighbour is a child minder, on the whole she looks after kids first thing in the morning and walks them to school, then she has then all after school until their parents pick them up. Then during the school holidays she has various children on various days. My main gripe is that she doesn't seem to keep an eye on the kids at all, and for the majority of the time they are very much unsupervised. I and my boyf have had to on a number of occassions tell a couple of the kids off while we have been in the back garden as they have either been beating a younger child over the head with some toy or another, or they have escaped her garden. Now i know children have to play, and it is lovely on some days when you can here them all playing together happily, but that seems to be rare. I suspect that she has too many children and that she is not able to cope, but she doesn't seem to have any control over them what so ever! I am lost at times to think where she must be that means that she is unable to hear the baby that she often looks after crying its heart out, or one or more of the other older children. She doesn't ever interact with the children and from what I can tell, when they are with her for the whole day they are just plonked in front of the TV all day, and when they become restless, they are either sent outside to play in the garden if it is nice, or she takes them out for a walk into town. I don't have kids myself, but if I did, I certainly don't think I would be asking her to mind them. All the kids are also only every given microwave meals if she feeds them. Isn't there some sort of requirement to give them some fruit or something during the day?? Should she be being monitored by some agency?

OFSTED check registered childminders, maybe it is on their website, or maybe you can enter her name to see if she is registered.

You could contact ofsted. My mums and childminder also. Its possible she may not be even registered but I would definitely give them a call and express your concerns about their lack of supervision in the garden.
Really she can have no more then 6 children under the age of 8 at a time. Hopefully she will get a surprise inspection. Helen xx |

If she is registered as people have said she will be subject to OFSTED so would check on there as others have said. If not you could try social servicesvices as they also have a duty of care.
As I was taught on a child protection course - don't think what if I'm worng ... think what if I'm right. |

Some people really shouldn't be childminders. I know someone who is a childminder but have seen how she doesn't look after her own daughter so definately wouldn't recommend that she looked after anyone elses children.
Hope this gets sorted. |

Childminders have to be registered as already said. But only if they look after a: non-family member, under 8yrs old, for more than 2hrs a day, for gain ( in kind or money ).
If she is registered her latest OFSTED reort will be on-line.
