I have an earlier panasonic lumix and its a brilliant camera, its much bigger than that one, not the compact, but if mine is anything to go by then panasonic are a very good make. I don't do half of what its capable of but have always been very pleased with the results.

It will be very good, they are all pretty good these days. You pay the extra for the extra features, the photo quality is much the same with all decent compacts. I have a compact Canon Digital IXUS 870 IS which is I think 10mega pixels and really the pic quality is just the same as my Canon Digital IXUS 70 which is 7mp, the difference is really just what features is on them

Panasonic Lumix are very good compact cameras. I recommend to my friends Panasonic compacts, the picture quality is excellent, they reliable as well, and Leica lens speak for itself. You will be very lucky if you get one. Lumix compacts generally have much vider angle at short zoom end, it is a big advantage. Great choice. ^^.
Big fan of Canon myself, Ixus are fantastic compacts too ( I have one Canon compact, it never let me down), but Panasonic caught up with them as it seems. I believe Panasonic is more user friendly and more features.
