so anyway, what can I use to get the stuff off? the cloth alone doesn't do it and cloth+water doesn't either

Sponge and a *small* amount of water - hold it over the blob so it takes in the moisture, then once it's soaked a little it should come away easily with a microfibre cloth.
Can't stress enough how important it is not to do this when it's on Oh - and kids aside, why the hell do people touch screens that aren't actually touch screens? It drives me nuts at work, I tell everyone off if they touch my monitor.
