A simple thought... Calcium cannot be metaboized without D3 and the mfg is acknowledging this.

I'm guessing that they are covering their arse even though they know D3 is added to the mix.

I do believe that Komodo is one of the more complete diets.

True. Remember last year someone who was anti pellets ended up using pellets because his torts were under weight after a UK crap summer. There is a difference between keeping them naturally here in the UK and keeping them naturally in the conditions they actually thrive in

I think underweight animals are due to being kept of strict rations, wild torts would be able to eat when and where they please and grow at the 'right' rate because the food available has varying value the year round. I don't know but could their digestive system be similar to other grazing animals? semi full all the time, I know the horse is made that way which is why it spends most of 24 hours eating. If the tort wanders along eating most things that it comes across then surely by rationing them to the odd leaf it would leave them empty for far longer than nature intended regardless of the 'richness' of the food. I don't limit my tort or torts in the past, don't keep them in 'sterile' conditions or over fuss/worry about them weight wise or health and have never had any problems and my young sully has a lovely smooth shell.

I gave up on the Komodo, they simply march right over the top of them and won't eat them. One prefers Mazuri and the other prefers Exo Terra

I have to ask... if the soil in the UK is so rich... why can't you find any good veggies throughout the country?

There is actually quite a lot of UK veggies but most are sold in smaller stores rather than the big chains. The main reason why it isn't so abaundant is due to heavy rain and lack of heat really.

in the westen world we strive to feed our tortoises as naturally as possible but if our weeds/food is more nutritious than mediteranean vegitation why do we have so many under weight tortoises?
what is normal,what is not?
lets keep it rolling!
But then the weight stuff here is done by 'what we think is right'. Torts in the wild of the same age are considerably smaller than ones in captivity.

I've yet to find any grocery store or restaraunt that had decent veggies... let alone good veggies. Even the small veggie stands in the smaller towns left much to be desired.

What do you mean by decent veg Ed? Are we talking giant USA sized veg or just the flavour?
