New tortoise mum here :-)
Hi everyone, I got my first tortoise yesterday. He (she) is a 5 month old Hermanns from a local breeder. We've named him Georgie

Hello, and welcome to the Forum! What type of set-up have you got?

Outside is still in progress but have bought a large kennel that we will insulate and add heat /light to. At the moment he'll only go out when it's sunny but outside will be complete in the next couple of weeks so he'll get outside more then. |

I wouldnt worry too much about a permanent outdoor setup at the moment as your tort is still very small, they dig down and you will loose him! Why not just put him outside on nice days in the cage you have him in or get an old second hand one and fill it with topsoil, add some shade and water etc, those cages are the perfect protection from crows and cats etc. If you get an old cage you can drill some holes in the bottom for drainage in case it rains and you are out. |
