i no this must have been asked many times ..how old is it before you can work out the sex of torts

Usually from five onwards. But if grown too fast then earlier. We dont recommend fast growth
as this can lead to more problems down the line.

sandy is right but you can have an educated guess on some species at a younger age.

iv found for some species it can be harder, as my marginated torts are a decent size, and cant tell there sex as yet, my sub adult spur i can(female) although she is only 6, but was over fed by her previous owner, so has grown considerably, buttt saying that i have a 4 1/2 yr old hermanns and by god how he is a male lol

all species vary but the general giveaways are the tail size, plastron shape where the tail is, the hole that the genitals are in and whether the tail of a male has popped out or not, in some species the males plastron is concave.
