Default New to Tortoises - Hibernation Question

Hi Guys,

I would really appreciate any help and advice you could give me. I got little Henry the Horsfield tortoise a few days ago. Things are going really well, he is a little timid, but on the whole quite active, eating etc.

I became a little worried when i read a few threads that now is usually the time to start hibernating tortoises? Is this a similar time for all tortoises to be hibernated?

I am panicking that i should be preparing him however really am not sure how to go about...anything really!

Thank you for any help, just want the best for Henry, he is adorable!

Gemma

hi you have only known henry for a few days

get to know him

get to know his ways

then reconsider next year x

however how old is henry

has he hibernated before he met you

Totally agree with Linda.

You need time to get ready for hibernation, and make sure the tortoise is fit and well.

Over winter it this year, and you have plenty of time to read up and get ready for next year.

Ditto to the comments made above - I got my tort in August and don't feel I know him well enough to hibernate this year - will do research and consider it for next year
