Thanks for the replys

I brought them in North Wales the shop owner said he had had them both since January 06, and that they where captive bred in Jamaica. There was only four left, the two i brought that where born 05 and two others that where born 04. He has eaten a little Mango today but only a couple of mouth fulls(after his bath) and is now basking. I have not seen him go to the toilet since i got him i dont know if that means anything. Do you think i should get him down the vets.

I think a trip to the vets is needed here. You will probably want to have a poo sample checked for worms for a start. Make sure the vets yougo tois a tortoise specialist

given what you say above and the advice from darren and lowe both very experienced keepers if these cherrys were mine i would definatly be off to the vets

I think I will take him down the vets tomorrow if i can get away from work quick enough. Thanks for asking. I will let you know how we get on

Can I just check the vet you plan to take the tortoise to is a tortoise specialist. If they are not then there is really no point as they probably won't have a clue.

I have been to my vets today - not re tortoise but to get dogs yearly injections. I asked him if he knew about torts (with a view of future reference for my own Leopard). The practice I use is Manor Vets... the one in Halesowen does not have a Tort specialist however he did say that his colleague who was based in Sandon Road near Edgebaston had a good understanding of torts.

Failing that.. there is a good reptile specialist in Solihull... if you need the name I am sure one if the Birmingham ladies can advise....Viv... we spoke about this vets last week?

you are in the midland anywhere near stoke shra recomends a great specialist vet in the vets thread

Thanks for all the help/advice. I have been recommended to a vets called Abbey Veterinary Group in Derby by a friend of mine who keeps Herman Tortoises. She says they have a Tortoise specialist who she always uses, so i will phone them in the morning. I will let everyone know how we get on.

Martin your tortoises are probably wild caught if Jamacica is there place of origin , Cherrys run wild there introduced as food source and so wild babies can be gathered for the pet trade , theres no doubt they have an internal foriegn body( hexmita or worm burden ) any vet can recommend a worm dose with panacur , i use 2.5% 1mlper kilo
