Default Non Hibernating species and Winter

Just a question on Non Hibernating Torts and Winter?

Out three Leopards have started to bury themselves at night? Jez has been doing this for a while now but the last 2 nights the little babies have started too. I wondered if it was to do with the time of year or just that they are now comfortable in their new home and starting to do what comes natural?

I just wondered if, even though some tortoises don't hibernate - they still change behaviour and routine in the Winter??

They probably do this in the wild, when temps/light levels drop. I would say its normal.
But will leave it too the leopard keepers to be sure.

I think it might be a mixture of the 2 Steve, out of interest are the temps in the house at night cooler than in the summer, ie do you have heating on low at night or does it go off.

If it goes off i would imagine your house cools to around 12 degrees during the night and this would be cooler than the summer nights.

We have the thermostat (for the central heating) on about 15 degrees at night - and so far it has not had to kick in!

I guessed so but just wondered if any other non hibernating species acted differently in Winter too?

I certainly dont think there is anything to worry about, its probably like you say they are doing their own thing now and have settled in.
