she is such a beauty Lacard, and I do think she may be older than 20 if your friends are unsure. no ear abscess, no foreign body in eye, no cherry eye, suspected tumour but never heard of this on a reptile, .....nascal cavity? food can get up into the roof into the cavity and cause swelling or infection. vet ruled out infection....! it could be the first treatment didn't work whatever it is. is it worth insisting on a different treatment? personally I think if she is eating sleeping and moving it will subside itself as the Vet has intervened already. worth the warm soak on the eye with the hayfever solution though. If its topical for humans it will be ok for her if she has rubbed it raw.

Hate to have to ask this but are you using a very experienced tortoise vet (one recommended by a lot of other keepers?) a lot of vets do not have a huge amount of experience with tortoises and may be worth seeking a second opinion perhaps?

Surely if it were a tumour it wouldn't have come up this fast? Its my understanding that most things develop quite slowly with a tort?

What. I know is that she went to the vet who checked the tortoise over, opened the side just in case (everyone thought it was an ear infection), ruled out infection, talked about tumor but gave clotrimazole in case it was an infection. It didn't subside and even went worse. She is fed pellets (for boost) and weeds. She has regular baths and cleaning of the area. I will talk to her about the hayfever solution. And looking for another opinion. Thank you for your help, I will keep you informed as things evolve x

Hello everyone, the vet she used was a specialist for reptiles and has got tortoises themselves. Her tortoise unfortunately was PTS last thursday. It wasn't eating anymore and seemed in pain, breathing differently and "blowing" every now and then. She left her at the vet so they can see what went wrong by doing a post-mortem. Will keep you informed.

Thank you CherryBrandy. The owner was very upset indeed. She tried her best up to the end. But then she realised something had to be done and it wasn't fair on her tortoise to keep her alive like that
