Outdoor living quarters (New photos post 19)
Hi guys, some pics of the ongoing outdoor enclosure for Maverick (Leopard Tortoise)
His house is pretty much complete, just needs painting, wiring tidying, some bits of trim here and there and a proper little ramp making. His garden area hasn't been completed yet, he needs some fencing putting up, although garden is fully secure, would like him to have a set area unless supervised. It also needs some shrubs, different materials for him to clamber over and some mounds!! All to be completed on Saturday. Pic 1 - First of 3 collections of timber Pic 2 - Basic structure Pic 3 - Internal walls gone in Pic 4 - Insulation going into all cavities Pic 5 - Roof going on Pic 6 - Roof complete Pic 7 - Internal view (Wiring still to be tidied) Pic 8 - House in situ (Trim on edge of felt needed) Pic 9 - Maverick himself Pic 10 - His garden area (Plenty of work to do) Any thoughts, comments, ideas etc.. would be gratefully appreciated. Pretty new to torts but trying my best. Thanks Martin Last edited by ScaryToastMonster; 09-04-2011 at 08:52 PM. Reason: New photos added Post 19 |

Brilliant house, youve worked hard.
One thing you asked for suggestions (please dont think im being rude ) Im constructing an outdoor set up enclosure at moment & a book I read explained about heavy soil/grass encouraging dew & evaporation & producing cold. He suggested you remove all grass (but I know Leopards like to eat it, so perhaps an area of both) & replace with sandy soil, & some stones as this lets rain & dew evaporate easily, doesnt hold moisture & holds heat from the sun, making it warmer for the tort. They also like shrubs bushes to hide under but im sure you will add these. Looking forward to more pictures |

What a relief to see someone has the forethought to offset the door to allow shelter from the elements...I built my dog kennel like that....well done an exceptional job..

Nice setup, you may find a uv combined bulb of 100w for a consistant crappy day's instead of the bulb and ceramic. This could still be on a timer just for summer morning's and dull day's, the tube heater can be night heat. Will this be a winter home also.
