Lucky Reptile Herp Nursery II, Any good for hibernating?
Hi
I have read a few peoples thoughts about using these to hibernate and was just wondering if anyone had used them in the past and would they recomend it? Cheers |

I'm not 100% but I think its an electric chiller rather than a proper refrigerator, so how far they can chill depends on ambient temps, so won't be suitable for hibernating.

I used mine to hibernate some hatchlings last year. It was great. It kept the temps really well. Better than any fridge i have ever used.

I've seen them in reptile magazine adverts and it says that they are ideal for hibernating as well as for incubating. I guess it's a matter of choice and opinion, like most things!

Any fan chilled appliance like the LRH would depend where it is stood, like near a radiator it would struggle to keep temps, a reasonably cool room would be ideal i think, as a normal kitchen compresser fridge has more power to cope with warm temp surrounding's if you know what i mean. Same with the beer cooler's, a fan is used to chill the cabinet.

Cheers for everyones thoughts, I have decided to try it out and ordered one from surrey pet supplies only £82. When it arrives I will get it running and see how well it holds the temperature. I am also lead to believe that as it heats and cools I could put it in my garage making it easier for it to keep cool and it will heat it to the desired temperature if it gets too cold.
I shall run some tests and keep you informed. |
