Perhaps your dog may have hidden the tortoise a place your dog uses/hides things. As they dont see torts as food, but as chews.
Madhouse your advice is as good as mine. As long as its positive advice and we all sing from the same hymn sheet. The
more advice the better.

Thanks Sandy

Maybe you could ask the vets if they'd take some money as a deposit and the rest by instalments - Im sure they'd want to help you and not let an animal be in pain and distress just cos of money. What about a PDSA anywhere near you???

Probably a daft thing to say but have you checked the dogs bedding, under cushions etc - our dogs hide things in very strange places. Am keeping my fingers crossed for you hun

Under or behind the furniture, under a rug, behind the TV, under the beds upstairs? the dog was obviously playing and it could be anywhere in the house, try the bathroom or the toilet, one of our dogs used to take everything to the bathroom for some reason.

Have you looked in your dogs mouth, or checked if its stuck in its coat, sounds daft but worth a try.
Hope you find it soon.
