Update on my eggs
The first eggs that Angie laid are 45 days old now and I'm almost certain that there's nothing going inside them. They are still in the incubator but their appearance has never changed and they look empty
But, to my 'untrained' eye, the other 6 eggs look like they might be doing ok Egg 1 at 45 days Egg 2 at 45 days Egg 3 at 31 days Egg 4 at 31 days Egg 5 at 31 days Egg 6 at 14 days Egg 7 at 14 days Egg 8 at 14 days Eggs 3, 4, and 5 all have lots of veins in them but they aren't very clear in the photos - I'm not very good with a camera..... and I think maybe a smaller torch would have been better but my penlight torch has disappeared but no-one has borrowed it.... hmmm.... Does anyone else see a tiny tortoise shape in egg 6 or is it just me? Mandy x Last edited by *Mandy*; 10-12-2010 at 12:45 AM. |

The first two look infertile to me, but the rest look promising

I agree The first 2 aren't fertile, 3,4 and 5 are definately fertile. 6, 7 and 8 are looking good.

It's a shame about the first 2 eggs but I am really hopeful that we can get at least one of the others to hatch successfully
Do you think I can safely take the first 2 eggs out of the incubator now? I've read about infertile eggs exploding and apparently they don't smell too good when this happens. I have the incubator set up in my daughter's bedroom as it's unlikely to be disturbed by curious cats in there so I would rather take them out if we sure they are infertile than risk them exploding. |

Just leave the other eggs just in case. It wouldn't hurt to leave them until the other eggs start to hatch.

Ok, will do!
They're aren't mouldy or getting fungus or anything so I'll leave them be for now. thank you Mandy x |

I've just checked my eggs and one of them has pipped!
There's not a lot to see yet, just a small hole in the side but it's definitely there. It's egg number 5, 61 days old today. To say I'm thrilled is an understatment! The first 2 eggs that she laid are now 75 days old and they still look the same as they did the day she laid them so it looks like everyone was right and they are infertile I will post some photos of eggs 5 / new baby later when there's a bit more to see.
