Hi and welcome to SW. You will get lots of great tips and advice from people here. They are all lovely and friendly.

At the moment i use a spot bulb and a uv strip but i will be changing to an arcadia d3 combi bulb.

As Bindi has said, everyone keeps torts in different ways and you will soon find your way of doing things.

Like i have said above, this forum is a hive of help and information so if ever your stuck of just want to share your thoughts, you will be very welcome x

Sorry to but in on OP's thread, but I have a 'new keeper' question too! I've ordered the Arcadia D3 160w bulb, and intend to have it on from probably 6.30am until 9.30pm (my usual getting up time and then not too late - so tort up for 14 hours).

My concern is that when the light is off, it'll get too cool as the tortoise table is within a long, thin room that doesn't retain it's heat brilliantly. At the moment it is not too bad (when I check the temp first thing in the morning it's 18 degrees) but I wondered what temp I should let it drop to. The lady I bought the tortoise table from also gave me a heat-lamp with thermostat. I am wondering whether it would we worthwhile having this on overnight when it gets very cold. Although the room is centrally heated, heating will be off from about 10.30pm to 5am.

If it would put your mind at ease you can set the thermostat to 16 oC for night time use, the heater will only come on when the temps drop below the required temps.

I agree with Tortbabe, always good to have a back-up especially through the winter
