Help
hey um sorry for yet another post but my toroise shelly i think has gotten worse today i noticed a small tube looking thing protruding from her (i think) tail. i dont think it would be a penis which would make her a him because my tortoises arent even a year. in the tub today s/he tried to poop but had some issues. it was an orangeish color which may be caused by their eating of carrots. um i dont reallt know what else it could be so some help would be nice...

A trip to a good tortoise vet is in order. It sounds like your sulcata has a stone he/she is trying to pass. What you probably saw was some of the intestine coming out. Is any of the tissue still out? If it is cover it in either an antibiotic ointment or petrolium jelly and keep in a plastic container.

i am now extremely confused.... i just went to check if s/he was any better and the tube like thing was gone....could it be that she is actually a he and is older than i thought?...
...i am a new toroise owner and i "adopted" them after my friend moved and had to adopt out most of her animals i am able to provide adequate space and have spent hours researching them but dont know all their health issues. so info would be great and if it is that the so thought her is a he then thats good. s/he is still having isues of poo being stuck to her but i put some petroleum jelly on to maybe help that so info suggestions thnx...totally confused might still try and plan a trip to a vet |

it could be the penis see kellys link or its a prolapse of some kind internal organs showing via the tail area look at kellys link if it is penis and it has retracted / gone back inside its okay if as danny suggests its intestine a vet is required to minimise further damage is it still happening do you have any pictures showing the problem are you 100% positive of torts age |

also im not sure of the age. my friend got them when they were still really soft shelled and hatchlings. i have them and theyre shells are almost fully hardened still a little soft but not much. and ill check but as far as i know its not still going on. k i just checked and its not there still. but there seems to be some mpre poo stuck to her ... maybe i need to really start making sure i bathe her everyday sometimes i forget from schoolwork. gosh hope shes ok.
also they both still fit in the palm of my hand actually both of them can fit on one hand they are sulcatas so i know they get big if this helps any then good ill try to get some pics. Last edited by larlar; 04-01-2010 at 02:40 AM. |
