Default UV tube light.

Hi all, it's time to buy a new 10.0 UV tube.

Can you buy reflectors for them, we'll be buying a longer one this time as the cage is now longer than the original one when we only had Darwin.
So far, we've used a foil box covered in foil, this is not at all ideal it keeps falling off.

Any suggestions please x

Depending on the length of your new UV tube, you can get a corresponding reflector to fit. They just clip on.

You will also need to check that your controller is designed to take a longer tube? I know the T5 controllers are different wattages and not compatible with different size tubes.

Good point. The Arcadia ones are very specific to the size and wattage of the tubes.

Thank you all. If we have to get the same size that's ok. I'll get my hubby to have a look

We have the Arcadia ACU 18. Does this mean anything to you?

The bloke in the pet shop was happy to sell us any length UV strip we needed of the exoterra 10.0 strip. Nothing was mentioned about different wattage. I might be sounding really thick there, lighting/electrics is not my forte :-/

Control systems are wattage specific. If you pass too little energy through a lamp it will be underrunning and underpowered, especially if you use underpowered lamps to start with. If you over power a lamp you burn out the phosphors and reduce the lifespan of the lamp

Your controller will run an 18w 24" lamp safely only.

If the lamp you need, needs to be longer you will need to update your controller,

Reflectors are 100% essential to all systems. Light tubes emit light all the way around the lamp. This means that over 2 thirds of the light produced is simply wasted as it is pointing in the wrong direction. A good reflector captures all of the light and places down exactly where it is needed most, on the animal.

If you are going to need to change your controller why not take this opportunity to include the newest tech, it won't cost you anymore at all!

If you bought a 39w 34" slimline fitting you would get everything that you need to give your tort the best. True high output T5 lighting.

The fitting has the controller and refector built in and even comes with the lamp for free.

I am happy to advise further if required

John
