My torts need a better keeper
Well thats how I feel at this moment
I am so stupid, one of my mvb lights stopped working so I went to try it in the other fitting and now none of them are working so today none of my torts have heat or light. I just do not know where to turn. I really feel my torts could do better I have tried so hard to do everything right but lately its just going pear shaped, one of the Hermanns is not doing great as well, I have tried everything and still its off its food not active and I have tried for a poo sample this last fortnght and no go Sorry for ranting on but things are bad at the moment. I am going to have to do something quick to sort this out, may have to resort to reptisun and of course its the cost, although I have to say I will do without as long as they are sorted. Its really hard when you love something so much and you feel you have let them down. Last night I could have let them go but the thought of never seeing their little black twinkling eyes was something I know I could not live without. Sorry again for ranting on but had to get it out of my system.

Thanks Linda,
I am going to take equipment down to a someone to check and see what the problem is, I know I will get it sorted soon my main worry is the torts and hoping they are ok until I get is fixed. I feel better now that I am doing something rather than just worrying about it.

Hi Beverley
We all get times like these beleive me. If you have desk lamps put them over the tortoises, ok no UV but heat is better from them than nothing at all. I also keep a few clip on lights for such emergencies. If one of your hermans is off his food, it could be he is winding himself down for hibernation. All of my older tortoises are slowing down and not eating as much. Although they have this morning as we have had a really warm sunny morning. Over cast now

Thank you all for your help.
If I can't get these working do you think I would be better to stick to MVB lamps, surely these would be cheaper to run, over separate UVB and heat. I have heating in the shed anyway, so will pop a couple of desk lamps over them tomorrow until I get it sorted. Thank you all

Oh Beverly - poor you Sandy is right, we all get times like this when what should, in theory, be a rewarding and enjoyable hobby suddenly all goes horribly wrong . At the time it feels like you are the only person who it happens to but believe me, it doesn't! I could write a book! Hang in there, it'll all come right again. A bit of sun would help quite a bit!

Dont give up, you are an excellent tort mum and I'm sure they will forgive you for the lack of uv for a short time.

The very fact you feel like that means those critters are in the best possible care. If you didnt give a damn... then you can say they deserve better! Chin up, another day tomorrow to show them that you love em to pieces
