Default Stolen car in Lincoln had 2 torts in boot

BBC news this morning: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england...shire-16563362

There is a question about why 2 hibernating torts were in a car boot. All the same, if anyone hears anything the police want to know.

I saw this on Ceefax and wondered exactly the same.

Could be several reasons

moving house?
taking them to be cared for by someone else whilst they go on holiday?
selling during hibernation so they wake in new home?

Whatever the reason lets hope they are found quickly

How strange they were in the "long stay" carpark. Probably little chance of getting a female Marginated back - they are so sought after, especially at that age.

Long stay is just the car park you use if you're commuting. It means you're out all day... longer than the 2-4 hours they allow for shoppers. But why would you have torts in the boot?

It sounds very odd but I hope the torts will soon be found, however unlikely it seems.

Oh right I thought it meant much longer than that.

Suppose they could have been doing box method & havent got anywhere cool enough in a modern house, dont know what they'd do when the temps dip though, maybe move temp indoors?

I had two nearly hibernating adult Ibera in the boot of our car in October as we were taking them to Blackpool to meet their new owner from Scotland, they were in their hibernation box and fast asleep. We waited in the long stay car park on the sea front and also went and had a cup of tea. They had about a week left of their wind down, just to 'prove' that there are reasons for having torts in your car. I also had 17 eggs the year before last as we were in the process of moving house, plus the two adults and some hatchlings who'd already hatched!. Enquire out of curiosity but don't judge!.

I don't think anyone is judging, I certainly am not.

I think we are all wondering why they had tortoises in the boot of the car, but I doubt we shall ever find out. Yes, all the suggestion given are valid obvious reasons.

I wonder how many people are driving around with hibernating tortoises in their boots? We'll only know if the cars are stolen and it makes headline news.

Hope they are found safe and well.
