Default missing tortoise

an 78 year old woman has lost a 80+ female Ibera it was last seen monday at 9:30pm in Abingdon, oxfordshire it was in a walled garden with no way to escape the thinks a red kite took it how ever i think it was stolen as red kites would not take an adult tortoise but u never know if any one hears anything plsss pm me and i will give you her details

I would have thought it would be a bit on the heavy side for a bird to carry off? So I would tend to agree with you, probably stolen. You need to inform the police, get as much publicity as possible & keep an eye on second hand /tort selling sites.

I remember someone earlier this year, who's tort was taken from a locked enclosure they got her tort back after the police had knocked local doors.

There is also the possibility it may have dug down somewhere - we have had a few cold nights here lately. Dont know about Oxford? A thorough search would be a good idea, looking under foliage,etc particularly near a compost heap (warmth) look for disturbed earth.

I totally agree more likely to have dug down! It is surprising how difficult they acn be to find in these cases. I have often done a fingertip search of my garden to find a 'lost' tortoise.

i went round there today and had a look she has only grass with one tree in the middle her garden is only 10 meters by 10 meters and the grass looks perfect no holes or nothing and the thing i found most funny she said who would steel a tortoises thats worth around 10 or 20 pounds i was like u mean more like 5 or 6 hundred pounds

ow and we called the police and they said there has been alot of tortoises stolen in the last 4 to 5 months :S

They can burrow under the grass where you cannot see them mine have!

When she was younger, tortoises probably only cost £10-£20!
